The first issue of the newspaper with my weekly column has now been published. It seems strange to open the paper and see my picture and comments in a prominent position. I think I am going to enjoy doing this. It has already caused several comments (good ones) from locals.
Because I was fined for not wearing my seat belt last week, and many of my friends were horrified by the size of the fine, I have now carried out some research on traffic laws and penalties here in Greece, and intend to include them in my column next week. I believe the local English community will want to have this information, as unfortunately most of us do not wear seat belts or use helmets on motorcycles. The chances of ‘being stopped’ are very remote, you have to be unlucky. I have been here almost five years now, and this was the first time I have been stopped. I am now wearing my belt when driving.
One of the more unusual laws is: Driver enjoying hanky-panky with passenger: Fine 200 euros………………………… I wonder how often that law is implemented!
Sales of my book on the Island are going well, and one school has said the children liked it, and they will consider putting it on their ‘required reading’ list. That would be fantastic, as hundreds of books would be sold as a result. ‘William the Fairground Car’ is becoming very well known here, as am I.
