I have just booked my flights to the UK. I am going back for two weeks to see my sons, my sisters and my grandchildren.
The weather here is about 33c and my sister says I am going back to about 16c / 17c and dull and windy.
Looks like this ‘summer holiday’ I will need to take my winter clothes!
I am taking a copy of my book ‘William the Fairground Car’ as a gift to my sisters grandaughter. She loves it, and her dad says he can’t buy one because of the recession. I think you can cut down too far when a child can’t have a book they want.
Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Hi again, Everything in my world is A-OK at the moment. I have been allowed back into MySpace! – The tourists are here in good numbers and are buying my book at the bookstores. I am meeting one couple tomorrow evening, who have bought a book , as they want me to sign it, before they go back home. I am very pleased to do that!.
One of the bookstores has telephoned to say he needs more copies of the book, and I will arrange that for them tomorrow morning.
My weekly newspaper column is going well, and I am now being recognised in the street by the locals. Still have not got much money, but I am becoming well known, so who knows where it will all go.
If you would like a copy of my book, please see any of my sites, or buy directly from the publisher on http://eloquentbooks.com/WilliamtheFairgroundCar.html It is also available on Amazon.

The first issue of the newspaper with my weekly column has now been published. It seems strange to open the paper and see my picture and comments in a prominent position. I think I am going to enjoy doing this. It has already caused several comments (good ones) from locals.
Because I was fined for not wearing my seat belt last week, and many of my friends were horrified by the size of the fine, I have now carried out some research on traffic laws and penalties here in Greece, and intend to include them in my column next week. I believe the local English community will want to have this information, as unfortunately most of us do not wear seat belts or use helmets on motorcycles. The chances of ‘being stopped’ are very remote, you have to be unlucky. I have been here almost five years now, and this was the first time I have been stopped. I am now wearing my belt when driving.
One of the more unusual laws is: Driver enjoying hanky-panky with passenger: Fine 200 euros………………………… I wonder how often that law is implemented!
Sales of my book on the Island are going well, and one school has said the children liked it, and they will consider putting it on their ‘required reading’ list. That would be fantastic, as hundreds of books would be sold as a result. ‘William the Fairground Car’ is becoming very well known here, as am I.

Today I have been to see the editor of the local English language newspaper, and he has invited me to write a weekly column, about life on Zakynthos, from an English point of view.
I am to include what we do, have done and intend to do. Our events etc. I will also write about what we like here and why, and what we do not like, and how we believe it can be improved. I will invite the English ‘ex pats’ to send me their news to ensure I represent all the English living on this island.
He became aware of me when I sent in a Press Release promoting my new children’s book titled ‘William the Fairground Car’. The press release was published, but I did not expect it to become a weekly event. I am very happy to have this column.

I was very pleased to receive a telephone call from the editor of one of the local English newspapers, asking me to write about life on the Island, from my point of view. How we English find the Greek ways, and how we cope with them.
He asked me to include what I have done since arriving on the Island, and what I am doing now.
This invitation was the result of the paper printing a ‘Press Release’ about my new children’s book titled William the Fairground Car.
It introduced me to him, and he is very interested in the book and ‘all the English’ who live on Zakynthos.
I am looking forward to writing this article, and hope I can turn it into more.

Here in Greece it is Easter this weekend. Because I am English, it was Easter there last weekend. I get to celebrate it twice – can’t be bad.
I love to cook, and am known for that here. One of the bars was holding an auction in aid of a Children’s Summer Camp, and he asked me to make a batch of HOT CROSS BUNS, because they are traditional in England and we can’t get them here.
I enjoyed the making of them (even though it took 4 hours). Delivered them to the bar and they went like – well, Hot Cakes!!!!
Great fun when there was just one left! several people wanted it – some of them for their 2nd or 3rd bun.
The bar owner suggested ‘auctioning’ it, for the charity, and while they were getting it organised with the auctioneer, a lady who was outside, walked in, lifted the dome, and took the last bun, saying she had enjoyed the one she had and would ‘take’ this one too!!!
Everyone just started to laugh – what else could they do! – they asked me to run home and make some more – double quick – (can’t do!!)

My new children’s book, William the Fairground Car, is providing me with some exciting moments right now, and I wanted to tell you about what is happening.
Because I am now living in Greece, I only have access to the USA via my media sites, which were set up for me by media specialist Donnette Davis.
My book was published in New York, and has 116 pages and over 100 great illustrations.
I have enlisted the help of a Greek friend, who is a newspaper reporter, and we have been visiting the bookstores, and showing them my book.
I am excited that ALL the stores we visited, liked my book, and have now started to stock it. The Greek children are taught English from age 7, and my book is being offered as an aid to that learning process, as well as fun reading for the kids.
We put out a ‘Press Release’ in both English (for the ‘ex pats’) and Greek, for the locals. Here is what it said:
New Children’s Book
by local Author Irene J Harvey
This book is a series of Ten linked stories, featuring visits by children to the fairground.
William the Car and his carriage friends can talk to each other in a way no one else can hear.
Stories cover exciting rides, and visits by elephants, clowns and ponies from the nearby circus.
Available NOW at: Two PLAISIO bookstores, MYLONAS bookstore, and LIBRO D’ORO bookstore all in Zakynthos Town.

Strategic Book Publishing (SBP) is a traditional publisher for authors that have a strong marketing pitch. We pay all costs for those authors. SBP also offers innovative publishing partnership programs for authors that have published with other publishers, and for authors where the path to large sales numbers is not so clearly defined.
If we choose to publish your work it will be for sale in all major bookstores, all online stores, and as many non-traditional channels as we can find. We market on a global basis. We attend the major trade shows and we have numerous partnerships and relationships with global book industry professionals. All of our books are nationally distributed by Ingram. We use a combination of printing methods based on risk analysis and sales volume. We have POD, short run offset, and full offset offshore printing at our disposal.
We are a smaller company and we work quickly. The faster the book is for sale, the faster everyone participates in the profits. For more information about our marketing and background please visit our ‘About‘ page.
We seek authors that are committed to their writing and their work. For examples of the authors and work that we are representing please visit our ‘Featured Authors‘ page. We are a smaller “boutique” publisher. We seek authors that want a close relationship, and trusted counsel from their publisher. Our turnaround times are faster, and we believe we are more responsive than larger publishers.
We are always looking for new talent. If you are interested in submitting your work to us please review our ‘Submissions’ page. Preference is given to authors working with a literary agency.
